About LEVEL 5
LEVEL 5 is Rod Christian’s brainchild to promote his extensive collection of original songs. Rod is a graduate of the West Australian Secondary Teacher's College, Nedlands, with a Diploma of Music Teaching (Music Major), 1979, and WA College of Advanced Education (Edith Cowan University), 1983 Mount Lawley, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Education (Music Major) and a minor in Drama, Film and Television in 1983. He has more than 50 years experience as a musician and Head of the Arts, directing music in three major secondary schools in Perth, Western Australia.
• In the professional music field, Rod is a writer member of APRA/AMCOS and is well known for his numerous musical achievements. He is also a Pedagogical Artist with the Australian Music Centre.
• In February 2003, Rod musically directed “CRUISIN’” at the Castle Hill Entertainment Centre in Sydney and then another successful production in October 2007 at the Regal Theatre in Perth starring Glenn Shorrock. Rod’s theatrical works are represented by David Spicer productions in Sydney. Rod currently publishes choral music with Hal Leonard USA through Arrange Me.
• Rod conducted and arranged for his community choir the Rejoyce Choir from 2009-2012 based at UWA. He is currently musical director of A Capella Go Harmony Chorus in Perth, Western Australia.
• He has finalized the orchestral score and book for “MATES!”, a WW2 musical about his parents which will premiere in November 2025. This had a highly successful Showcase presentation in March 2018.
• His latest composition ULURU Suite for Orchestra and Chorus premiered in 2017 with the MLC College European tour to Vienna and Switzerland.
• Since 2015 he has been working on two new musicals THE FRIENDLY GAMES with Christopher Hoyne based in Melbourne, THE HILLS ARE ALIVE and FIFO with Trevor Gibson, his own musical MATES and arranging scores for ensembles and choirs.
• Rod still performs bass, keyboards and guitar and vocals in his three bands, mentors music teachers in classroom and instrumental teaching and is writing and scoring orchestral music for film and television.
• Rod has completed many briefs for major commercials and documentaries The soundtrack to Cruisin the Musical and mates a WWII musical which are Rod’s own compositions and many more commercials and radio plays were all performed by professional artists.
• These are featured on his website below. All recordings were scored, recorded and produced at Rod’s one-man studio, Hotel Sorrento based in Sorrento Western Australia. He is proud to be presenting MATES at the OLD MILL THEATRE with a fabulous cast and crew for a three week season in November
