LA CAT
Music • Movement • Nature • One Love
I call myself LA Cat.
At the heart of my music is a simple belief: we are all connected. One people. One planet. One Earth.
My musical journey comes from a unique blend of Native American heritage, Hawaiian Island mysticism, Southern California, and a deep connection with nature. Through my music, I hope to inspire people to look within, feel their true inner self, and remember the connection we share with one another and with all living things.
I want my music to leave an imprint—a reminder to return to our roots, live in harmony with Mother Earth, and create a happier, more loving world.
Music is a way of life for me. I sing, write, play, dance, and create for the love of life.
Growing up in Southern California, I was fortunate to spend much of my life among the hills of Malibu and the ocean. Nature became one of my greatest teachers, and many of my songs are inspired by the mystical experiences and sense of oneness I have felt in those places.
My musical style blends Reggae with touches of Jazz, Folk, and World music. My Hawaiian-born father was a jazz musician and began training my ear before I even realized I was learning. On our morning drives to school, we listened to Jazz on the car radio. Music was also part of our family life through my Auntie, who was a singing teacher.
And then there were the birds.
The birds were my first band members.
I would sit with my guitar and sing with them. In those moments, I learned to listen—not only to music, but to the rhythms and voices of nature. Eventually, I began writing my own songs, and my musical journey took me from clubs in Los Angeles to international stages in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand.
Working with musicians from different cultures expanded my musical world and influenced the sounds and rhythms I continue to explore today. I studied vocals and percussion at Los Angeles Music Academy and continued my piano studies at Santa Monica College.
Creativity has always taken many forms in my life. I earned a BA in Fine Arts and Dance and later continued my education in animation with the assistance of the Southern California Indian Center and United American Indian Involvement.
Dance became another language through which I could express myself. I have taught Modern, Jazz, Ballet, World Dance, and my own style, and I love dancing on stage whenever I can put my guitar down.
One of the highlights of my dance career was being cast as “The Cat” in George Clinton’s iconic “Atomic Dog” music video.
Today, all of these experiences come together in my music—the musician, the dancer, the storyteller, the artist, the connection to nature, and the spiritual journey of life itself.
I have released three albums: We Will Unite, Unconditional Love, and my newest album, Circles of Life.
I also composed the film score for the award-winning documentary War Brides of Japan.
Through my music, I hope to remind people of something we already carry within us:
We are not separate from nature.
We are not separate from one another.
We are part of the same circle of life.
One Love. One Earth. One Life.
